How a Marathon and Childbirth Are Similar

My race report will come in a little bit...I have to collect all the photos.
But while I was in the shower I was thinking about how the marathon and childbirth are quite similar:

time getting ready- I was pregnant for just under 9 months & trained for the marathon for almost that long.

preparation- I attended birthing and breastfeeding classes & I attended hydration and race day seminars.

expectations- for both, you think you have an idea of how hard it will be- but untill you do it, you have no idea.

partners-Brian was by my side during childbirth & Missy was by my side for all our long runs and the race.

nerves-when you are admitted to the hospital and realize this is really it, the butterflies hit & when you at the starting line and realize this is really it, the butterflies hit.

pain during- for both, you think it's the worst burn you have ever felt (different muscles though).

pain after- for both, you can't walk the next day, and it hurts to go to the bathroom (just the squating to get to the toilet for the marathon).

blood - for me...both involved a lot of blood (not the same kind of blood thankfully - more on that in my race report, if you can stand it).

Mom's help- for both, my Mom was here to take care of my family while I healed and was my biggest fan.

husband's support- for both Brian was telling me I could do it when I was so tired and ready to be done and said he was proud of me when it was all over.

amnesia- the acomplishment you feel when each is done is so great, you forget how hard it was to actually get it done.

Congratulations- for both, my friends and family were all so happy for me and I received lots of phone calls facebook and text messages. Thank you!!!!!

hopefully the marathon won't be waking you up at all hours of the night for the next several months.
