Running Update

It's been a while since I've posted about my training!

Last weekend Missy and I ran 14 miles and felt AWESOME. Seriously, we could have done more no problem. And we had a great time too 2 hrs 29 minutes. After the run my feet were sore...which I expected - I had just ran 14 miles! My aching mostly went away by Sunday afternoon...except for the lateral part of my right foot. I started looking up possible diagnosis.
I came up with 3:
tendinitis of the peronius brevis
dislocated cuboid
stress fracture
On Monday I made a doctor's appointment for Tuesday afternoon.
I went to bible study Tuesday morning and asked my group to pray for my foot. Seems silly, I know, but that's how stressed out I was!
Went to a new doctor (whom I LOVED) and he asked what was up. I told him I needed him to create a miracle..."I have a hurt foot, and I need you to make it better by Saturday, so I can run 16 miles." His reply "16? Is that all?" lol.
Turns out I do have tendinitis of the peronius brevis - which was the best scenario, considering the other 2 would have put me out of running. I have a prescription for 800 Motrin, and 2 weeks before the race I will get a shot to numb my foot. There is the possibility of a stress fracture, but he thinks I can make it till the race.
Basically I can stop running and let it heal. OR I can run until I get a stress fracture, then let it heal OR I can run, pray that I don't get a stress fracture before the race, THEN let it heal. If I do get a stress fracture, it's not *that* big of a deal, I just have to wear an air cast and no running. It won't cause permanent damage. I opted for the last treatment. Run, then rest after the race.
The downside? Well I am in pain pretty much ALL THE TIME except when I am sleeping. Since I load up on ibuprofen for my runs, I need to use it sparingly the rest of the time. My foot wont hurt (as much) when I run - but trust me, when your running 14-20 miles a run, lots of things hurt - besides my foot ;o)
Today I did 16 miles - My foot was tight, but there was no sharp pain! It was a hard run...guess they can't all be as good as last week :o) The last 2 miles were pretty much all mental for us. Our bodies were yelling to stop but our minds were saying "you can do this!". These hard runs are just as important as the good ones though. It prepares us to overcome that "wall" we will be sure to hit in the race. After such a hard run it's kind of hard to imagine going 10 more miles!
Training with my trainer is going SO good! I'm kind of nervous when all of my sessions are up and I still have 4 more weeks till we taper. I might have to hire him for 1 more month! His plan? To make our training sessions so hard, that a marathon seems easy! I feel so good after my hour with him, knowing that I couldn't have pushed my body any harder and that I got in a great workout. I highly recommend him...Arthur Hsu - HIRE HIM! Or go to one of his bootcamp classes at LVAC west flamingo. You'll get a sneak peak into what a training session is like.
Training is on track...and after running 16, we started to realize that that we are really going to be doing this...SOON! This i the meat and potatoes of our training - no skipping workouts at all anymore. Next weekend is a rest week (6 miles), then we do 18, 20, 22, Red Rock Loop (13 miles of steep hills) and the week before the race - 6 miles. That's only 6 more long runs!!!!!!

  1. I can't even imagine running that long. I told you how long I can run but I won't repeat it for the world to know!

    Be careful!

    I love you,

  2. It was fun to get updated. I haven't looked at the blogs for a little over a week. Good luck with the foot. I agree you have worked too hard to not do the race! Hang in there:)
