Saturday was my second run in over 2 months. (the first being the day before to see if I could do it) It felt really good to get out there and race. When the race started at 7am it was in the 90's and about 25% humidity - which is high here and very uncomfortable to run in! At about the 2 mile mark I started dragging. Then this guy comes up from behind and starts running right next to me...a little faster than I had been running but at a steady pace. He asked if he was distracting me and I said "no, your helping push me, thanks!" He paced me for about 3/4 of a mile then said he saw some friends and wanted to catch up to them...then he took off, with very little effort! That's when I realized something was funny.
I finished the last .6 miles and met Dave who was already done. I saw the guy who was running with me and went to thank him and asked him his name - Steve. He was very friendly and said it was no problem.
This morning I looked up my time on the website...28:46

Then I noticed the overall winners...

LOL - Steve finished in first place and was on his second lap when he was running with me! Out of about 245 people I finished in 99th place and he was 1st...I've got some work to do!
haha that's crazy! funny though.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you need any work I think that its awesome you did it in 28min. I think I'm going to start trying to train for those shorter runs rather than 1/2 marathons.
they're shorter/ probably A LOT less stress/strain on the body than a marathon and fun to try to do it quicker each time. I'm guessing a shorter recovery time than the marathon too.
its almost too easy though...i like that the longer runs are hard, and take some work to be ready for.
ReplyDeleteIm doing a 10k next month, maybe ill like that one better than the 5k...kinda in between
