It was 9:30am and I just had gotten out of the shower. I thought though that it was 8:30...I don't know how I was a whole hour off. We had to leave for church in 15 minutes. Ellie is getting a cold and is so snotty, so I thought about staying home with her while Alison and Brian went to church. But then decided to move as fast as I could and see if we could make it.
We were about 5 minutes late and Ellie cried and cried when I dropped her off at Sunday School. When we got to our building the place was packed..Ive never seen it so full, not even at Christmas. People were standing along the walls. Then I remembered that Nick Vujicic was speaking today. He was born without any arm and legs and has made it his mission to bring as many people as he can to Heaven with him. It was amazing to hear his story and meet him.
I'm so grateful that we belong to a church that encourages people to find God in their own way. They give everyone opportunities to get closer by bringing in wonderful guest speakers that make you look at things a little different. Today, what I got out of his talk was nothing that he overtly said, in fact he rushed over this part, but I kept thinking about it the whole hour. His parents NEVER gave up on him and always encouraged him to keep trying and reminded him that God loved him and had a plan for him. Even though my kids are physically healthy, it reminded me to always be their number one supporter and always encourage them, and they will grow up to have a meaningful life. Even though I am cranky and tired, I can't get this time back and when Ellie brings me her latest coloring and Alison wants me to build a fort with her...I need to sigh less and encourage their imagination and creativity more.
If you have a minute, check out his webpage and see what he is about.
that's cool you made it to church so you didn't miss out on the guest speaker. I have been looking for a church. I jsut don't know what kind of church I want to go to in terms of large/ small etc. I don't know how to go about it either as far as just show up and walk in to a random church. I know I don't want to go to a church where you're obligated to dress up. I haven't been to church since the 7th grade. But I want to find one and get comfortable with it before Maddie is Sunday school age.
ReplyDeleteI would have liked to hear him. He sounds like a candidate to speak at our National Convention at the "One Nation Under God" breakfast. What a handicap to overcome....
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you made it to church!
Mom
thanks for the link to that church you emailed me...it looks good. I think if I can talk Jim into it we might go next week.
