Friday (and a little today)

4:45am Wake up and get ready
5:25am Leave for the Surgery Center
6:00am Arrive and fill out a million forms
6:17am They take Brian back for his IV
6:32am Mary and I get called back to sit with Brian until the surgeon is ready
We also meet the "circulation nurse" (She runs the room) and the anaesthesiologist.
7:12am Surgery starts and we wait and wait and wait
9:30am The surgeon comes out to talk to us and tells us everything went perfect
10:42am We are able to take Brian home
11:20am Alison is complaining of a sore ear
11:45am I fix lunch for everyone
1:00pm Now Alison is crying and holding her ear, so I take her to a children's Quick Care
1:07pm Children's Quick Care doesn't open until 5pm. I call my Mom (just because I'm stressed) and she reminds me that it is Friday not Saturday (like I was thinking the whole day) and that the doctor would be open
1:12 - 1:22pm sit on hold with Dr Hodapp's office. Finely get a real person and an appointment with the NP (who I love)
2:00pm Alison and I stop at Wendy's for a chocolate frosty (It helps her sore throat)
2:45 - 3:10pm wait for our appointment.
3:10pm Find out that Al has a double ear infection and the side she was complaining about is, in the NP's words "raging" (She has only had one other EI her whole life when she was a baby...great timing)
3:42pm drop Alison off at home and go to CVS to pick up her prescriptions
4:35pm get home and start dinner
5:53pm finish dinner and give Al her antibiotics
6:13pm Al knocks the bottle of antibiotics off the counter and the bottle breaks, all the medicine is all over the floor.
6:15pm go back to CVS to BEG for another bottle. They say they can't give me one without a Rx. Of coarse the doctors office is closed now.
6:17pm I am so tired and frustrated I start crying
6:20pm I leave CVS with the medicine and thank them a million times.
7:00pm I ask Mary to read the girls a story and put them to bed.

Meanwhile I have my cell phone set to remind myself to give Brian his pills. He is nauseous, and can't get down to the toilet, so I am helping him not puke all over, carrying his crutches up and down the stairs when ever he moves, bringing him snacks and water/Gatorade, helping him change clothes and get clean (he can't take a shower for 3 days) And of coarse Alison wants Mommy because she doesn't feel good. And Ellie is just being clingy Ellie.

Finely I get everyone settled in and I sit on the couch. I am exhausted but I feel like I shouldn't leave Brian on the couch in case he needs something. I pass out, so it doesn't matter.

Today was better. I'm still crazy tired, and my house looks like a hurricane hit, but Im not going to worry about it. My in-laws left a half hour ago and took my kids with them (and I cried again.) It will be relaxing to be home just us, but I will miss them. I need to go feed and drug Brian again, lay down and recharge, physically and emotionally.

  1. Oh man what a day, it's good your kids will be taken care of while you take care of your other big kid right! Sure wish we were there and able to help out more. I'll pass the message on to Scott that surgery went well. Hang in there.

  2. A lot of work for anyone to have to deal with let alone someone who is pregnant. I hope the next few days go a lot better for you.

  3. Oh my Mandi! I must be pregnant too, I'm tearing up just reading about your stressful day. So it's OK for you to cry! I hope things get better soon! And thank goodness CVS gave you more meds. What were they thinking with a kids RX and a glass bottle??
