NYC -Day 5
We woke up to a very very cold day and rain. I was not excited at all to be going to the Statue of Liberty, but we already had tickets (or so I thought) I knew the ferry ride was going to be FREEZING and so would the island. After breakfast we went down to where we were supposed to catch the ferry and I went to the little building to pick up my tickets...BUT - It was Wednesday March 3rd, and my tickets were for Monday March 1st! What?! How did I not notice that? The lady working there was SOOOO nice and gave us a full refund for our tickets! I was more than happy considering the rain!
We were very close to Wall Street, so luckly we still had plenty to do this day.
The church in the 1st picture is Trinity Church...it's at the end of Wall Street and right near Ground Zero.
Next is me standing with George Washington.
And the third one, I have no idea what he was taking a picture of!
One of the 'must see' things on Brian's list was the New York Stock Exchange. We didn't realize that, since Sept 11th, they no longer do tours anymore.
This is the NYSE:
After Wall Street, we walked over to Ground Zero. It's humbling to stand on the street corner and remember exactly what happened there that day. They are in the process of building the memorial, so there isn't much to actually see, but it was easy for us to imagine the two tall buildings that would have filled this empty space.
A HUGE HUGE HUGE discount store was just a block away, so we stopped in for some shopping. I got the girls a bunch of Roxy clothes for when it warms up for 50% off the ticket price. Too bad Brian didn't have any patience for me to shop for myself!
We then headed back to Times Square and ate lunch at Europan...I think it might be a chain, but we hadn't eaten there and didn't think they had one in Vegas ;o)
Since it was still raining we didn't feel like walking around outside...so we went to the movies and saw Cop Out. It was pretty funny. The theaters are built up, instead of out like they are here...It was about 6 double stories tall!
The next building over was the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum. I would have much rather gone to MoMA, but Brian really wanted to see the freaks.
What I would look like with no legs...
Me next to the tallest man ever and Obama made out of gumballs
Thats my head in the lower right jar & me sitting next to some wierdo
We went back tot he hotel to shower and change (I felt grimy after being in the rain all day)
then went back to Times Square. We had no set plans for dinner, so we figured we would just go and pick somewhere (that was the nice thing about going in the winter - a lot of places that we just walked into said that they have 2-3 week waiting lists for reservations in the spring and summer!)
We walked F-O-R-E-V-E-R and finely decided on Ruby Foo's. It was Japanese food and it was SOOO yummy! I had the best Sake ever and asked our server to write it down for us...Wandering Poet. It was so smooth, and had a great taste.
This was also our chance to get some pictures of Times Square at night...beautiful.
