First - I would like to say that I did in fact not wear the same outfit every day! This coat was the warmest, so it got used a lot - I also used Laural's black pea coat, but it didn't seem to make it in any pictures. The hat (also Laural's) matched the coat...and this scarf (a Christmas present from Aunt Sue) matched everything and was SO cozy!
Moving on.
I seriously have NO IDEA why more cities have not taken NYC's lead and built a subway system. I realize it would cost a lot, but it is amazing. We only rode in a taxi 3 or 4 times the whole week...and that was only to and from the airport and a couple times when we were short on time and needed the most direct route. I think if more cities were set up like NYC, there would be a lot less obese people too. We walked EVERYWHERE. We loved it though.
Here we are on the subway:
Here is a piece of art in one of the tunnels - the mosaics were awesome.
Here is one of the stores in Grand Central Station. Beautiful. There were very upscale shops down there underground - which surprised me for some reason. In my head subways were dirty and scarey...so not the case. They were a tad stinky, but not dirty at all...in fact , I never saw trash on the ground.
Speaking of being clean - the streets were very clean also. Again - I was expecting it to be kinda dirty and more seedy. But as you can see, from this lovely picture of my husband, it was very nice.
We saw almost no homeless people. Sure there were people in the subway singing and playing music for money, and I have no idea if they were homeless, but at least they were DOING something, not just begging (like I get here in Vegas) and most of them were VERY good. There were also a lot of these costumes. You could take your picture with Elmo or Spongebob for a *tip*.
(I also realize we mostly stayed in touristy (is that a word ;o) areas of the city, and that might be why there wasn't a lot of trash or homelessness)
I had no idea that the New Years ball was there all year long. I don't know where I thought it went, but it was kinda cool to see it.
This picture has nothing to do with what I want to say, but I hadn't used it yet...
We are already planning our next trip back there in about 4 years, and want to take the kids. Believe it or not, there is a ton of stuff for kids to do and I think they would love it. It could be pretty educational too I think.
And finaly - I could probably go anywhere with this boy and have an amazing trip. Yes, we work hard, save our pennies (literaly) to enjoy going to places with lots to do, BUT the main reason we go it to be together, without our kids, and to reconnect. I know some marriages don't need to do this, but we really do. It reenergizes our whole life. This trip was mostly for me - Brian wasn't that excited about NYC - so I just wanted to say THANK YOU BABE! You are the most wonderful husband ever, and everytime we get away it reminds me of why I fell in love with you. You are so much fun and I'm glad we travel well together - you take things as they come, don't get stressed out, and always find funny things about every situation. I LOVE YOU!
